We decided to have a little bit of fun and try and make a drum that was comically shallow, but sounded amazing. Spoiler alert: we nailed it.

We started off with a triple blend of some of our favorite tonewoods, firstly, zebra wood. A very dense and stiff species originating from Africa, it always packs a great punch, providing lots of focus and attack. Next, we went to one of our perennial favorites, Walnut. A bit softer of a species, Walnut is always our go-to for A client that may be looking for a warm, buttery, fat back-beat machine. Lastly, we included some North American white ash. This species is a favorite choice for guitar makers due to its wonderful strength, stability, and tone.

This mixture of wood species provides for a drum that will simultaneously punch you square in the face, and then give you a warm comforting hug. It has tons of attack and power, as well as warm woody undertones.

For Hardware we went with classic Chrome over brass tube lugs, no flange 4 mm Hoops, vintage style claws, a deluxe Piccolo strainer, diecast butt plate, and a specially made low profile badge that we handcrafted from solid brass. Also, this drum features our redesigned internal dampening system with a handsome Maplewood knob, this dampening system allows you to instantly add some dampening or muffling to the batter head simply by twisting a knob, helping you easily achieve a staccato sound or remove any unwanted overtones on the fly with no external gels or dampening devices.

One of our favorite features on this drum is the 30 strand snare wires, usually on a Piccolo drum there is a very low snare wire count, we went in the direct opposite direction of this convention. What this did for the sound of the drum was to allow it to have the meat and punch of a full size snare drum with microscopic articulation and snappiness of a piccolo.

This drum is genuinely one of the favorites the team has produced in a while. We couldn't stop playing it in the shop when we finished it. We really hope that you'll scoop one of these up and have as much fun with it as we did!
