25 pounds of cast and machined copper. This snare has been in the works for years at HHG. We designed these shells and hoops to really showcase the sonic beauty of copper, while maintaining the power of a true cast shell.
The shell in the photos is a 14x7 size (but we can make any size you would like) it features a 5mm thick edge, and a 3mm central body. The shell is cast from molten copper, and then precision machined to extremely accurate dimensions. A shell made in this way is incredibly strong, and has pure crystalline structure within the metal itself, as there is no bending, rolling, or welding involved in its construction. It makes for the the purest copper tone possible from any drum, and its incredibly robust thickness and mass make it a powerful and formidable sonic force to be reckoned with.
The hoops are made in the same exact way. Molten copper is cast into shape, and then machined to incredibly tight tolerances. The weight, strength, and rigidity of the hoops makes tuning a delight, and will withstand any pummeling you can dish out.
The shell and hoops both have a light coat of tarnish-preventing lacquer inside and out to keep your copper beauty looking brand new for decades. (Though this can be omitted if you prefer the metal to patina with age)
As with all of our drums and listings shown, when you place an order with HHG Drums, your new instrument will be hand-crafted in house, from scratch. The drum shown in the pictures was built for a customer, and now resides with them.
Each drum is outfitted with our heavy duty gear-tube lugs, a diecast HHG badge, diecast airvent, diecast Butt plate, trick strainer, Evans drum heads, and Puresound snare wires.
You can choose from chrome, black nickel, or gold hardware- just shoot us a message with your choice.
You can choose your shell thickness too! Pick between a 3mm or 5mm shell thickness, or 5mm edges with a 3mm body (reinforcement ring style).
