These have been on my hit list for a long time. It always seemed like a fun project, so when one of my long time clients asked me for some, I jumped at the opportunity to build a couple.
I made a couple different styles of these bass drum beaters. The wood species used include Bubinga, Purple Heart, ebony, Walnut, Birch, in Mahogany . The Pentagon HHG emblem is made from recycled brass plate that I CNC engraved and machined. The shaft of the beater is made from hardened surgical-grade stainless steel.
I built these to be just marginally heavier than your average bass drum beater for a solid and punchy impact with a great throw and feel. I've been playing one for a while now on the shop kit, and it feels spectacular. It's responsive and twitchy, as well as impactful and thunderous. It strikes just the right balance as far as my foot is concerned, and I get the feeling you will agree!
